Just read the post on the Kanotix site about the beta release of the next version of the distro.

What's really exciting to read is the arrival of a GUI Installer
with the capability of updating an existing install with the new release! No more having to install from scratch just to use the latest version!

Quick question. Does the lite disk do the same thing, but include less stuff? I really like some stuff about kanotix, but *man* it installs a lot of stuff I don't need. Sorry if this is answered in that link - I haven't had a chance to read it.

I'm not sure. I've never tried the lite version. I'd assume that's what it is, the same release but less bloat.

So does that mean if I install it I won't lose everything from my current set up?

From all indications of the posted article.... yes. However, I haven't tried it myself. I'm going to wait for the official release before I do. Shouldn't be long, if everything is working as well as others have reported.

Thanks. I will wait anyways until final version comes out. Let me know how you make out.

Well I installed the "lite" version on my test box. It's, AFAICT, exactly the same as the full install I did last time, with updated packages. I was hoping for something a lot leaner.
Is there a howto for kanotix somewhere? There is a lot of stuff, like how it mounts the HD on the desktop, that I don't really care for. I'm sure there are simple fixes, but I'm really not feeling like spending hours googling for answers.

I suggest visiting the Kanotix wiki:
Here. I believe there's something about slimming down the Kanotix install.
