We installed the pc engine version of openwrt (cousin of dd-wrt and tomato) on an old pentium II computer. Really neat There are lot of packages for it such as asterisk and etc. the one neat thing about it as it will be a good teaching tool for letting people become familiar with router firmware without having to worry about messing up a router when experimenting. Also easy to upgrade hardwire and wifi nics without having to purchase a whole new router.
