...and 5 days after i throw down $300 for a droid. LOL what could they do now, remove features from peoples phones? there would be a lot of pissed off people locked into 2 year contracts and complaining.

interesting they go after the small money first (HTC). apple might be able to get them to cave in quickly. then they will have a precedent to go after the goog.

(and don't worry apple, if you get in a financial bind going after google, you'll get a cash infusion by a *eh hem* a secret supporter *cough, M$*. after all "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". LOL)

well, at least Apple disclosed what the patents they are concerned about are. they haven't kept them a secret to wage the all too familiar FUD campaign.

I don't think Google will let HTC fold easily. It's not in Android's best interest if their hardware partners are intimidated out of the market. Don't mistake this action as nothing more than Apple's attempt to stave off competitors. Android is a viable competitor to the iPhone and Apple recognizes this. What's odd is that most of the patents listed seem to be software related but they went after after a hardware manufacturer. This could get ugly has Google steps in to defend their partners.

oh, you are right... that is strange they are going after a hardware manufacturer for software issues. maybe they realize they can't take on google directly. instead they will try and scare cell manufacturers away from using android.

where have we seen that tactic before?

well, it will be interesting to watch this unfold.

I think Google HAS TO get involved if they want to give their partners the confidence that they won't get sued out of existence. Honestly I don't see how Apple invented everything they listed. They just filed the patents at the patent office first. It's a bit of a farce really. It's a shame that HTC and Google will have to employ an army of lawyers to deal with this crap. The patent system in this country really needs to be reformed in a major way.

"As a remedy, Apple is seeking an injunction barring HTC from importing or selling devices in the U.S."

typical.

so we should all still be driving model-t's because the competitors have simular user
interfaces. LOL

The model "T" is probably more fuel efficient anyway. I still will not be spending money with the patent bully. I have no problem using the command line and the patent bully still loses.

I have Verizon and a HTC phone, IF ... and I say IF Apple wins or gets a injunction against HTC....(which I hope they don't). Then what about those of us with these phones? Would this be a case of us being able to back out of our 2 year contracts with Verizon? (I just reupped with Verizon for another 2 year commitment for the HTC phones). Thanks...

Hmmmm.... I am not sure they can take the devices away from you but I suspect they would not let you back out of the contract. Maybe offer you another phone or something but I doubt they would easily allow you out.

And a Taiwanese company is suing Apple for alleged patent infringement over multi-touch technology:
