New way to compute?
I love GPXE. With gpxe enabled nic and a web server (even one running on another os such as ms or apple would do) you can boot a computer diskless anywhere there is internet access (aka use a gpxe enabled phone modem) The fun part is that you can choose from various operating systems at boot time. Not just mswindows or linux..All security restrictions can be done server side. No more worry about having data stolen off a hard drive. I have done this with my laptop via hardwired connections where available while traveling. I went to one client and loaded mswindows. and then later in the day went to another client and loaded linux. All from just choosing an item on a menu at boot time. though I prefer loading a minimal os that uses an rdp/vnc type encryped client to access other systems. This same method would be great for schools for extremely reduced maintenance costs. GPXE is ten times easier to manage than ltsp. Also great for loading various install setup images if you do have to set up a server or client system the old fashion way remotely. Thinking about using it for mythtv clients. You still have to build images but they all sit server side and you do not have to waste time rebuilding systems except in a virtual machine so then deployment time is zero. GPXE also as I understand it supports aoe and iscsi images.
