I run six or seven accounts (depending which machine) using IMAP, on several different servers, using Thunderbird, both on Windows and Linux. It's great! Works better than Sylpheed ever did for me.

Funny how different people get on differently with software

I've been seriously toying with the idea of switching to Thunderbird from Sylpheed. It's a very tough choice. I love Sylpheed, but Thunderbird is almost too cool to pass up! I am running Thunderbird for another email account I have though. Flawless. I like the junk mail filter as that account is 95% spam now.

I figured I could put the junk mail filter on for all the spam that slips through. Albeit, it is not much spam that slips through the filters, but enough to make me consider switching.

The only problem I see with Thunderbird's junk mail filter is that is flags everything as junk off the bat. You need to train it. So if someone you do not know finds your email address on your page and contacts you, they will be dumped into the junk mail. So you have to keep a constant eye on the junk mail folder to make sure something legitimate did not slip by.

In my case, this would probably be to monitor about 5 emails a day. Not much.

The adaptive junk mail filter owns. Plus I like the encryption plug in... I am glad I made the switch based on a reco from somebody at BCLUG... I don't miss evolution, since I never used the outlook style stuff.

OK, ya got me.. I was having serious troubles with thunderbird -BUT - I decided to take another stab at it since you use it the same way I would need to successfully. I simply deleted my .thunderbird directory and started it all over again. Thanks to you i do now hav it working the way I would like.. Thanks!

Now my question is this: The only thing I can see with it that is a negative is it's slower. Does it seem slower than sylphed to anyone else?

Never tried Slyphed or whatever tf but thunderbird runs pretty quick (isn't that the point of the firefox/thunderbird series). How many emails do you have stored?

in my experience previously, Thunderbird was quite a bit slower than Sylpheed on an older machine, although Thunderbird has more features.

Anyone know when the new 1.5 version of thunderbird may hit the Kanotix repositories? Thanks.

Don't know about Kanotix.
It's in the Arch current repository. I'm using it as my main email client. Very nice. The spam filtering is worth it's weight in gold.
