The new rss standards for an itunes feed requires an explicit tag to be set. I scratched my head on this last night and gave tllts an explicit rating can be some foul language and off color topics at times.

I'm not sure what impact this has on our presence in iTunes, I rarely use that application. Can somebody proffer some advice? Should we rate TLLTS as explicit?

;dann... at this point, i don't believe it affects you in any way other than that the itunes music store will post a little red icon that reads "explicit" next to the title of the podcast.

;i think it's a fairly poor choice on apple's part (given other options). i think that "for adults" or "not for kids" or even "self governance suggested" or "you can't judge for yourself, so here's your warning" would be better choices, for example.

The first time I ever heard the term "explicit" applied to music and related media referred to 2 Live Crew. This show hardly comes close in terms of foul language compared to some of lyrics I've heard in popular music over the past 15 years. Plus, to me, I've always thought that not just the language used but the frequency determined the labels. A movie with an f-bomb might still get the PG-13 while one with 178 will get the R. It's not just the word but the frequency. I don't know if music ratings work the same though.

• * you can be removed from itunes music for posting a podcast containing explicit content without an explicit tag
  * apparently you cannot post a podcast with "overtly explicit" material--again, undefined here by apple
  * in the terms of service

...so again we have no idea what apple deems "explicit" or "overtly explicit."

;given its use in music, i would assume they're associating the label with the RIAA's parental advisory.

Dann, after your little story in the end of episode 93, I say the explicit tag fits TLLTS, but that's not necessarily negative, I like the freedom that podcasting gives to throw in the f-bomb or just touch on some rather "interesting" topics sometimes. And I gotta say after episode 93, I laughed my ass off so hard over 40 mins.
