Anyone gotten iPodLinux running on the 4th gen iPods?

I've been using my 4th gen 40gb iPod for awhile now in Linux with GTK Pod, and it works great, but as everyone knows, iPods don't play OGG, or FLAC files, which really bites. I'd like to try and install Linux on it, so I can play open formats, but I hear it's pretty buggy for the 4th gen models and newer. Has anyone tried it, and how good does it work? You guys should cover it on a future episode of TLLTS. Allan has a 4th gen iPod doesn't he?

;i've got an ipod photo "click wheel"--i'm not sure what qualifies for a "4th gen" without looking it up. i for one would like to hear about others' experiences with using their ipods on linux, or linux on their ipods.

;i thought that dann had one too... or at least he did at one time. i remember him commenting on some older episodes that he "stole" one from work.

;gotcha. thanks for doing the footwork on that one!

;so i guess i have a 4th gen ipod. i have yet to install gtkpod on my laptop... installation should be pretty breezy, though, because there's a package available for it.

;question for anyone: if the package on linuxpackages is a 10.1 package, and i'm running 10.2, am i going to run into major issues installing it on my system? has anyone tried this? freshmeat doesn't list any dependencies, and the gtkpod site only lists libgpod--which i would assume is in the package--so i shouldn't have any trouble, right?
