major hard crashes in gnome while running firefox

Only thing I can tell you is I was having big problems w/ firefox crashing until my last system upgrade as well. Since then though there have been no problems whatsoever. It never crashed my whole system though, just dropped firefox more tha occasionally.

;yeah, the only thing i can think is that one of the other bookmark extensions is goofing things up. i have run "bookmarks syncronizer" before (on another operating system *cough*) and that works, but i have not used "locate in bookmarks..." before, so maybe that's the culprit.
;linc: do you use any of those extensions? maybe there's a common issue.

Actually, I don't use any of those. In fact, I am not using any extensions at all except the irc extension.

;ugh... that's bad news. i'm going to start peeling away layers and digging a bit deeper. i'm not at all satisfied with an error in my browser that crashes my entire system at will.

What version of firefox are you using? Make sure its up-to-date and if your using 1 you might want to give 1.5 a try, it pretty stable for me

;i'm running the latest officially stable version: 1.0.7. i intend on running 1.5 once it moves past RC to stable... and i hope that will resolve the problem.
;the latest issue is that after experimenting with the glitch, i launch firefox and it prompts me to select a profile. firefox does this under two conditions: either the profile is locked by a process (e.g., another instance of FF is running) or it cannot find the profile it's looking for. since i had just rebooted the system, there's no way it was running. translation: my profile is hosed.
;let's just say that i'll be glad to install 1.5 when it comes out. i won't be using a package off linuxpackages either. after listening to alan hicks in episode 92, i'd have to agree with that it's much better to go the trusted route of doing it myself, especially after having issues like i've had.
