Flash to become obsolete?

Post by CptnObvious999 » Wed Nov 30, 2005 7:35 pm

after going to this site and this one I started to think. There might not need to be a flash plugin at all in the future. These using these new features and W3C standards compliant features we can make things as interactive without flash now. Although its not as easy right now than doing it in flash but once some development kits are made and standards become more standard we won't need to rely on the proprietary flash plugin which is great for anyone running linux on a different architecture than x86 and means more innovation. Just thought I'd share my theory.

Yes and no I think flash is good for example for video streaming. I preffer viewing video on flash like http://video.google.com/ than having to install configure mplayer plugger, real media, gxine etc.

Another way I have seen that I am using swf better and better is on video tutorials (again video). Is really a better use than generating a theora or mpeg since is smaller and more portable.

Macromedia has for a long time a Rich Web Applications, however they killed themselves having end users as developers and overpricing flex.
