Yeah, I'm a little behind on my podcast listening, since this happened before Thanksgiving, but better late than never. I'm not sure why someone decided to pick my name out of the group when you guys were running through the names on the frapper map, but it's been a long time since something cool happened to me on the way home from work like that. On a side note, my family pronounces our last name "Vogt" like "vote", though I never blame anyone for pronouncing it differently. You just can't make some German words work in English.

I feel like I should contribute to the show somehow, but I have my doubts how much I, a broke, no talent ass-clown, can do to help. I have begun brewing my own beer, though, and have an Oktoberfest batch that's been bottled and is just waiting to age for a month before it's ready. It would probably be illegal to ship beer to you guys, though, knowing Oklahoma and it's ridiculous alcohol laws, all of which should have been thrown out after Prohibition. Anyhow, it's only my second batch, so I'm not sure how it's going to turn out.

I was a little curious what kind of research you do on your interviewees before the show? You obviously get the questions ready before the show. It might be nice to read off a really short mini-bio of the guest, something you could read off while Dann is reconfiguring programs mid-show. I'm not sure what questions you want to save for asking him during the show, but I think everyone always wants to know what their favorite linux distro is or what distros they use, when and how they first started using linux, what their favorite flavor of slurpie is, and all that kind of stuff. Just to get a quick feel for the guy before he comes on.

Actually, there are laws surrounding shipment of beer, which is a drag. However, there are no laws surrounding shipment of yeast samples which is how most home brewers get around the issue.

Assuming you're still doing extract brews, you have a long and very fun road ahead of you. I miss terribly my nights spent a-brewin' -- in fact, I slept about 2 hours the day my son was born (well, the day my wife wnet into 50 hours of labor) since I had finished brewing a batch at around 9am, and didn't crash until at least 11. It was a Wee Heavy (~11% alc when all was said and done) - I sent a 22 oz bottle out with each of my birth anouncements.

Yeah, this being my second batch, I don't think I'm quite ready to make my own mash tun yet, so I'll stick to the malt extract for now. That's a brilliant idea for the birth announcement, though. I'll have to steal that idea from you. Need to figure out a way to make my own labels to go on the beer bottles, make two sets, one for boy and one for girl, then slap them on when we find out. That is, if we don't find out until the birth, which I think would be more fun, if perhaps a little less practical for people wanting to buy gifts before the kid is born. I imagine that brew would be the last batch for a while.

Yeah, it's fun listening to Dann screw with the computer mid-show. It reminds me of my own "won't leave well enough alone" attitude I take to computing.

Well, there's a lot of software out there that will make wine or beer labels for you (look at morebeer.com or northerbrewer.com or bobbrews.com -- there are many others, these just sprung to mind), however, I've found it pretty easy to just use the gimp or similar programs.

Check out qbrew -- it's not as highly revered ad promash, but it's pretty damn good, and runs on linux.
