Which application do you believe will become the next "Apache"-style open source killer app.
Personally, I think it's gonna be Xen, the virtualization stuff

I say KDE4 even though its not really an app its a Desktop Environment. I think Asterisk is too advanced for lots of people to set up, its more for hobbiests, even though it is awesome and very powerfull. Xorg is kinda like a behind the scenes thing developers care about because they use the features in something like KDE4

I don't think Xen will get near as much use as KDE but its still good.
Bottom line: KDE4 is going to be awesome

I think that advancing Xorg is more important than making serious improvements to KDE, because you need the lower levels improved first, then you can go all the way up to the desktop environment.

True but when I hear the question "What will be the new Apache" I think of what everyone will want and since Xorg is providing the low level functions its behind the scenes so a lot of people don't know they want it where as KDE4 will be very visible and they are going to say "WOW I want KDE4!"

I guess it depends on what you mean by "the new Apache"

I think it's already Firefox. It is displacing IE by leaps and bounds, and is already available cross platform. There's really no reason to use anything else. On my web site I already get more hits from Firefox than IE.
