Is XGL something that will replace X.org?

No, XGL is basicly just an extention to Xorg that makes Xorg do it's drawing with OpenGL, so stuff like KDE can use 3D acceleration to draw shadows, shading, tranperancy......

For some reason I thought that it was already in the new Xorg 7 but KDE just didn't use it yet. Guess not. Will this be put in the next minor version of Xorg 7? It doesn't seem like a minor update ;-) and I don't want to wait for Xorg 7.1

I don't know, let's have Pat get some Xorg developers on the show and let's find out :P

I don't know, I guess you might be able to use it as a kind of Xorg module.
