I really like ktorrent - I was looking at different clients last night, and out of them all, it suits my specific needs the best. #1 it's a kde app - native is good. #2 it has all the bells and whistles (well all of the ones I care about) that azureus has, and isn't java. #3 there is no number three - well, ok, there is - it docks, and natively (see #1).

Yep I've been using it for a while now I love it. My favorite feature is that you can select what files from the torrent you want to download (if its a multifile torrent). Btw the newest version has the ability to save the torrent to a specified location instead of $HOME/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent/. It does crash once in a while though but I like how it is for KDE so it isn't bloated like java.

Gotta check this one out. I know people complain about the slowness of java (myself included) but I haven't had any issues with Azureus. I recommend Azureus as well as firefox, thunderbird, audacity, gimp and vlc to windows users. They get used to those programs then you mention "they all run on linux". It's a ways to an end.

My main problems with azureus are that it isn't native, and that even for a KDE user it has an enormous amount of options/info/checkboxen. It works OK, but if I have an option, I generally prefer to go with native stuff. I use Konqueror for nearly everything at this point as well.

Oh, and if you plan on installing it on your arch box, I'd recommend the svn AUR build over the other one. It's much more stable.

I like Azureus. Integrates nicely into GNOME, has lots of features.

Yeah me neither, I really like Azureus actually, especially for it's plugin capabilities, there is this great RSS plugin I use to fetch various torrented stuff.
Azureus does use a little more RAM than say KTorrent, but I really don't care thta much, doesn't slow my system down it just sits in the tray all the time. The only thing I don't like about Azureus is the ugly file dialogs.

I used to use Ctorrent, which is very small, command line only, and written in C. I liked it because it was written by some chinese college student, and was simple enough that I could hack the C code.

Now I just use Bittorrent. I like it because it's written in Python, works from the command line, and has a GUI for the rare occasions I want that.

I usually start a torrent at a terminal an let it run. That way I can log in and out of Gnome as I please. I hate going to shut down X and then remembering I have a torrent running.

That's actually what I'm running. I probably should have made that more clear.

Indeed and going to Windows is like trying to quit cold turkey. (I have to use Windows at school)

Yeah, I totally agree with you, I hate having Windows forced on me, it's just horrible, no virtual desktops, no Firefox, no XMMS, no MPlayer, no KDE, AARRRHHHHHH!!!!! FµCK WINDOWS!!!

Well I carry portable firefox on my iAudio (and portable gaim) and VLC usually installs even if they have security permissions on it. Plus I always carry my LiveCD's everywhere so when I'm able to use what I like I can.
