"Microsoft Corp. has shipped the first critical security update for Windows Vista, the next version of its flagship operating system.
Over the weekend, the company released patches for beta testers running the Windows Vista December CTP (Community Technology Preview) and Windows Vista Beta 1, and warned that the new operating system was vulnerable to a remote code execution flaw in the Graphics Rendering Engine.

A Microsoft spokesperson told eWEEK that the Vista patches address the same vulnerability that led to the WMF (Windows Metafile) malware attacks earlier this month.

Microsoft's out-of-cycle security update for the WMF vulnerability makes no mention of Windows Vista being vulnerable, but with the release of this weekend's patches it is clear that the poorly designed "SetAbortProc," the function that allows printing jobs to be cancelled, was ported over to Vista."

LOL, Vista isn't even released and the fools are already issuing security patches, Windows users better prepare for another 5 years of spyware, viruses, DRM rookits and shit like that.

There'll always be security vulnerabilities, so patches aren't unexpected.

One of the big problems I have with MicroShaft is that they don't learn anything.... it's the same crap, just in a different wrapper and sold to you at a higher price.

But Microsoft's way of patching and "secret keeping"-approach to everything is just plain stupid! Also, I don't want to wait a month for pacthes I see as critical, but Microsoft only sees as important, I want them ASAP!!!!

Also, I look forward to see loads of spyware and crap for Windows Vista, as long as Microsoft don't rewrite the operating system COMPLETELY from scratch, and leaves every previous Windows user behind and says "Sorry, we just need to fix this thing for real" they will always suffer from their crappy past security systems.

they should of just scrapped windows and started from scratch - but it is their own stubbornness that will eventually kill them.

they keep piling on junk on top of junk and keep selling it. windows will go down in history as one of the biggest consumer rip off items there ever was.

I agree. No question.

Microshaft tries to keep everything like this on the hush-hush because they need to keep giving their customers the false sense of security in order to keep the market cornered and the profits coming in.

As I've posted before, It's all marketing.
