I was just looking over at the interview schedule calendar, and I was looking at March and noticed "Jes Hall" was listed there, that's cool, finally some women on this show

Pat, Linc and Allan, please prevent Dann from dishing out anything related to a hogie-guy story on that episode, he can do it on other episodes, I think it's funny as hell, but on that one it might be wise to make him keep quiet.

By the way, could you guys fix Pat's mic so when we talk to Zack Rusin and Jes Hall Pat can talk to them, I think it would be good to have a KDE user and a non-KDE user asking questions.

And by the way, I think I'll take my caffeine use/abuse to the limit in March, can't miss the XGL stuff!

I totally understand her perspective. We always treat our guests with the utmost respect and will approach the interview in our usual manner.

As far as my mic I hope to have a new one soon. My 16 year old Shure SM58 (from my band days) has seen better days. It's time to retire it.

Of course, I was just pulling a joke. I see guys and women as equals, which is why I don't see why some girls here in Denmark who is interested in computers sometimes are embarressed to talk about it, I think it's good that people don't have to limit themselves to a "selected" bunch of stuff to do because of their gender.

Back in fifth grade, a girl in my class was yelling at me, for accidently bumping into her when she has putting some of that shit on her finger nails, with pretty much every possible offending racist words you can think of, I'm adopted from Sri Lanka so I have a brown skin color (I hate the word black), after like the 12th she had a red chin, with the mark of a flat hand, let me put it like that.

Yeah I think that is really commendable, oh boy things were getting tense during the interview with RMS, sounded like Linc was a burning hulk or something.

Logitech has some great USB mics, really nice mic and not that pricy. If you want a cheap one just go to Radio Shack, Wallmart, Kmart (A KDE related thing?) or whatever, they'll have something that will do the job.

I was pretty pissed off at RMS too. His insinuation that we're living under a fascist dictatorship was pretty off the wall. I suggested that he speak to someone who has actually lived under a totalitarian regime for clarification. What do you expect from someone who likes to have dinner with Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro? They would have to restrain me if I was in the room with those fvckers!

It can't be USB since we have a standard audio mixer. I'll look around and see what's available these days. Tax season is very close. I should have some extra cash soon.

Yeah, I think he went way too far overboard with that stuff, but I also think it's appauling that the US government accepts bribes from the RIAA and MPAA to make copyright laws that favors them rather than the average ordinary citizen. Denmark was invated by the nazis back during WWII and some of the german nazi soldiers went to my grand parents farm and spent the night there, and my grandmother was like super freaked out because she was afraid they would smoke a cigaret and the farm would go up in flames (My grandfather and grandmother had six kids so a fire would be a total disaster). My grandma told m "stories" before she died, which was a long time ago. One of neighbors was shut by the germans because he didn't want them in his home, and 400 jews were sent to the death camps in Poland and Germany.

They need to kick out the lobbyists for good. Politicians on both sides of the aisle are guilty of taking money from those ass clowns. This morning I heard some of my co-workers talking about the Golden Globe Awards show from last night. I almost puked. Who the hell would sit through 3 hours of Hollywood freaks kissing each others asses? I can think of a million other ways to spend 3 hours of my precious time.

Yeah man, and the scary thing is that the same thing is still hapening in the world today, if you take a look at the far eastern parts of Russia you'll see kids having to watch their family get killed, getting raped and then burried in a massgrave along with their family, sick shit man, that Putin guy needs to watch what his troops are doing to innocent people!! I'm going off on your comment about your SM58 mic. I have worked with an SM58 and the mixer you guys are using.

My experience has been that you need to have the "pre-amp" turned to max (+60) on the mixer, then still pump up the volume level as well in order for the SM58 to get enough volume for a digital recording. Have you tried that?

It is hard to break an SM58 because they are built rock solid?

Also I have found that it is really important to "swallow" the mic, as they say, with an SM58. Your voice sounds like it might be hard for any mic to pick up a strong signal.

I record a weekly radio show with different hosts. I have one person with a very difficult voice. With the SM58 I had to crank up the pre-amp and the volume level to get a strong signal. I now have a nice condenser mic, but he is still the hardest host to pick up because of his voice frequencies. Adding a little low band eq on the mixing board might make your voice a little easier to hear too.

Take these hints for what they are. I really enjoy your comments and questions, you add a lot to the group. I also would love to hear an interchange between you and some of the guests because I think it would really add to the interviews. You may have tried all of these ideas already, but I thought I would share some of my recording experience in the hopes it will help a little.

Looking forward to some great shows and some great guests that you have lined up.

LOL. The US gov't leaves much to be desired, but the way I look at it, there are a lot worse places to be than the US. And if you really don't like it here, leave. Otherwise, stop complaining and fix what you think is wrong. Thats my politics in a nutshell.

It always sounds like Pat is getting enough volume, he just sounds muffled. My guess is he's either talking into the mic sideways and not head on, or the mic is busted.

An SM-58 should get plenty of high-end no matter how far away (within a foot or so), as long as it is pointing at your face. If he's just too far away it should sound too thin and tinny, not muffled.

Just my 2 cents, but I've been a roadie, been in bands and run sound on a weekly basis.

That was my guess. I've got a near mint SM-57 sitting in the basement, but I keep telling myself I'll actually use it some day. It's better than nothing, but it wouldn't be the best podcast mic. If we could get $5 from everyone who complains about sound on the show, it wouldn't take long to buy a decent mic.

Speaking of mic's how did I sound last night? I used one of the spare $15 radio shack mics.

Couldn't tell much difference. A cheap mic will probably have little high end anyway (and sound like a broken SM58). It seemed like you were distorting now and then, but that might be from having you too hot into the board.
