Actually, Dann has his own listing: Danns23
I'd like to give it another shot sometime soon. Perhaps when we meet up on the irc sometime later.

Dan, I corrected your skype phone ID in my first post. I'll keep adding anyone else to the first post as they come in. Unfortunately the IRC ports are blocked here at work so it will have to wait until tonight. Say, 9:00 PM? From what I see skype looks pretty cool. Can't wait to try it out.

Last night Dan and myself were able to talk to each other using Skype. I've been reading the FAQ on the skype website as well as trolling the forum and have come up with the following:
- the linux client can not initiate a conference call (currently the win version can do this)
- the linux client can participate in a conference intiated by a windoze user
- as a workaround someone posted that each person can call two people at the same time and they were able to talk to everyone connected
- I'm looking to see if we can stream/record a call via audacity or rezound
- a mac version should be out by the end of the year
Please post any suggestions or answers. I'll leave the skype client running when I'm on the internet if you like to try it out and have a chat.

I've got skype, I don't have it running all the time, but it seems pretty cool.
Has anyone been looking at any other VOIP software? I've been experimenting with Asterisk for a while now, but I've only managed to create a voicemail system for my modem... no real VOIP stuff yet. If we got it working on one server then we could have our own 'exchange' that we could call into like the Linux Show guys seem to do.

I've been looking at PhoneGAIM which is a kind of add-on for GAIM to do VoIP - I think it's sponsored by Linspire.

Well, on the client side of VOIP there's the following list of apps (from a quick search on Gentoo's Portage and Google):
- Linux
Windows
- SJphone
I don't know of any other VOIP clients for Windows
I'm trying to find a server app that will create an exchange. Asterisk does this, but there isn't much documentation, and the little there is, is pretty unclear. I seem to have managed to do the harder part of it all... getting a standard modem to work with it... But not what I would consider the easiest bit... routing calls through the internet, or even through my LAN.
Has anyone got experience with Asterisk? or know where there's a good support resource for it?
