Fun Super Monkey Ball clone for Linux

Post by Wally Balljacker » Mon Feb 13, 2006 5:32 am

I noticed Neverball featured in issue 10 of Tux magazine. It requires OpenGL hardware acceleration, and a 500MHz proc or better. Cool game, although you might get dizzy after awhile!

I believe Arch and Debian users can Apt and Pacman it.

It's been in Fedora Extras for a while.

I was playing this game a lot last week. The controls are a little weird but surprisingly the music was great. Its not quiet as good as super monkey ball because you can fly and battle ;-)

I' ve played this on slackware over a year ago, debian, ubuntu and now arch. It's a great game. Neverputt is fun too. I really like that.

I blew through a number of stages up to where you had to balance on those movving platforms, roll off onto the un-secured platform, and then back to the moving again. Really tough. Did not get past that one. Forget the number.

I played this on OS X too. What I found easier on OS X was that you could use the keyboard. I could not use the keyboard on the linux versions I have tried. Maybe I will revisit this later today.

I could use the keyboard on linux. Neverputt is really slow for me even with the graphics all the way down but Neverball has no problem running...its odd since I assume they use the same engine...

Under Arch, the keyboard is working fine. I think it was under Ubuntu I could not use the keyboard.

Odd that neverputt is slow. Both run great on my system.

This is pretty cool. Using the mouse to control the course was a little weird at first but I have gotten used to it. I am a Super Monkey Ball fan and it is cool that there is a good clone that runs on Linux.

Cool stuff! I wonder what gwiz is like - I was a HUGE fan of wizardry when I was a kid. Maybe I can kick Werdna's ass again some day.
