M$ is just being more blatant than usual. What I want to know is why they bother employing Bill Hilf and others to pretend that M$ wants to cooperate with linux? I hope I see him at the upcoming LWE in Boston. I'll ask him that question point blank along with some other zingers as well.

You would think that, if Microshaft wanted to cooperate with Linux they would have at least made this article on how to DUAL BOOT with Linux, rather than remove it.

No matter what their P.R. office releases, no matter how far in the future, I'll NEVER trust Microshaft corporation or software to do any good... other than for their own self gain.

Now, now, lets be fair, there's plenty of documentation out there which tells you how to wipe out windows for linux. Its all fun and games imho; I can imagine some developer snickering as he wrote that thing.

Hear hear! To give then credit, though, they do mention that you can dual boot Windows with Linux and refer you to your distrobutions documentation on doing this.

I do think it is humorous that there needs to be an article like this. I would suspect that a person who is capable of installing Linux has somewhat of an understanding of disk partitioning having gone through the process and should be able to wipe out existing partitions in order to install Windows. Maybe, though, that's the fault of the Windows installer, it's not clear enough that you must do this.

That's not necessarily true, SUSE and Mandriva has gotten so simple to install over the last year, that you just click a few buttons and you're good to go, it litterally is just about reading the text on the screen.

Now let's be fair. Really... how many retailers are selling PCs with Linux pre-installed? Today, chances are that people have done their Linux installs themselves, making their own decision to either dual boot or remove M$ Windows from their PC.

With that in mind, and taking into account the market share M$ Windows has over Linux on the desktop, this sort of article is really un-justified and not really needed. This was just done out of spite... nothing more, from what I can determine.

;that's not the target audience, dann. it's targeted at the windows admin who takes over for the guy who actually knew what he was doing but quit. now this other guy is left with linux boxes he can't maintain so he needs a step-by-step tutorial in removing linux.
