Well, Apple is known for not fixing old UNIX flaws, that was a problem years ago, so this doesn't surprise me. When you make a more complex system, you make more chances for security bugs, Apple's codebase is probably large, and their GUI is close to the actual OS, I think the reason we in the Linux and BSD world don't suffer these problems is that we aren't one entity, for example, on top of Linux you have Xorg, and there a whole other team, on top of that either KDE or GNOME, again different developers who can spot bugs.
