I have it installed. Its pretty good however it doesn't seem to index a lot of formats but its definately a start.

How fast is it? Is it buggy, and apart from not indexing that much stuff, how good is it?

Its fast. I was surprised I didn't have to wait for it to index a directory after I added it and when I searched for a file in that directory it came up. I havn't noticed any bugs yet.

Nice man, sounds like the SUSE guys are doing some cool stuff, could you maybe make some screenshots for us to see?

what are you talking about those are completely legit files. I recorded those files with MythTV.

I do have one annoyance with it since it doesn't seem to use the kde font sizes so its really small on the description and relevance rating.

How could a Qt app not use the KDE font settings? I guess it has some preset font sizes or something, I bet ya it'll be fixed soon, by the way, did you see that Gentoo has just released their 2006.0 release?

Yes I did. Updated KDE and GCC and a lot of package bumping but not too much. Although it might include a new graphical installer that they have been working on. Not sure though... Gentoo doesn't really do much different in new releases which is good for me so I don't have to reinstall it or whatever.

I wonder why they didn't include KDE 3.5.X, it's been out for a good while now....

I might actually give FreeBSD a whirl next month when they release 6.1, it will have Xen integrated so I can just run SUSE along side it

KDE is a very large amount of code which means it is more likely to have more bugs than something smaller which is why 3.5 is still considered unstable plus I think they have a rule where it won't be submited into stable unless they don't get a bug report for a certain amount of time. When they say stable they don't want anything to break, if it does its a sin. Kinda like Debian Stable except less ancient

Well normally I would say
echo "=kde-base/kde-meta-3.5.1 ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
but kde has a lot of dependancies and you have to make all of them use unstable so I ran this script that will use unstable x86 for all of kde (or all the packages in kde-base):

cd /usr/portage
for pack in kde-base/*
do echo $pack >> /etc/portage/package.keywords ~x86
done

you could run "ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge kde-meta" but when you run emerge -uD world (world update) it would downgrade to stable KDE since it didn't know you wanted unstable. I think the porthole frontend takes care of all that mess for you though but I like commandline
