Installfest?
Any thoughts on having an Installfest? I know it would require some effort to organize but it would be a good interactive activity for everyone as well serve as a hands-on experience for those newer to Linux or the seasoned veteran who might have an unusual problem.
As if finding a place to host this will be hard enough, I think we would need a place where people can get connected to the Web. Any ideas? Has this been tried before? I know other LUGs do these so maybe someone has participated in one and can offer some organizational advice.

The last installfest by the LUG was held at my house 2 summers ago.

We had about 8 people and it was a blast. We were setup in one of the spare bedrooms which isn't that big. Unfortunately my basement isn't done otherwise we could have a lot of people. I'd volunteer but I'm trying to convince my wife to let me host the annual BBQ. I don't think she'll go for 2 events so close. Especially since we have a 6 mos baby. I know Jeff continually helps the noobies with installs at his CIG meetings every month.

any chance
i would totally go. maybe it can be held at someone's place of work?
Our installfests have been flops in the past. If this is something a number of members are interested in and we get some publicity out there to the community and we find a location to do the installfest, then I don't see why we cannot give it another try. This is something we should probably move to the list.
It may be time for an installfest in the near future. I don't think they were total flops. We always had a good time with them. Dan, you mentioned that you looked into setting up a booth at the Market Pro show. How expensive is it to get a booth? How much for a non-profit? That would be a great place to do one. Someones house is always good too. Was the last installfest the one we had at my place? That was 2.5 years ago!
