One of my harddisk on my file server gave up today. It ran roughly about 5 years and just puked. Not that it had any personal photos or anything. But sadly I lost about 30 gigs of porn
That's a collection of about a year I had been storing there.
Well, bittorrent here I come to replenish my stock

30 GBs? Come on man, that's not much at all, I think my collection is several times larger than that (I can't be bothered to delete stuff when there's space to just leave it be).

I am sure Pat will have a license for that. Especially gifted by Leo Laporte.

Joking aside, the amount of data we have recovered at my workplace, even with an older version of spinrite, is nothing short of amazing. You can say what you will about GRC, but that tool is an amazing piece of work.

Ok, here's the thing --
I had my file server running Debian Stable on a 10GB primary harddisk formatted with ext3.
I had another disk in there of 80GB with some MP3 files, Movies, Pr0n etc (you get the idea). This was formatted with FAT32 since the day I got it from my friend and I didn't bother changing it since it already had some data.
Now recently I had to swap the 10GB one for a cousin and got his 4.3GB one. I formatted the drive, install Debian stable on it. apt-get update/upgrade and installed samba on it.
Now when I mount the 80GB one, it shows the directory of Music properly and the Pr0n one is shown as a file. A quick "df -h" revealed that the disk is just full as I had earlier. So the data's there, it's just not accessible with the new Debian install. I am not too worried about it since I never really watched most of it in the first place

I dunno, maybe I will investigate more into it some week-end later on.

hmm, sounds like fat32 write/read is not part of the kernel, for debian stable that does not seem right.
I presume you have tried mount -t vfat /dev/whateeverthedriveis /mnt/mounteddrive ?

Oh yes, as I said, the Music directory on the disk can be read (didn't try to write anything) but the Pr0n one looks like a file.
