Mumia Abu-Jamal on Obama

Is Obama's victory ours?

With the attainment of the required delegates to claim the Democratic Party’s nomination for U.S. president, Sen. Barack H. Obama (D-IL) has written a new page in American history.

For by so doing he succeeds where Channing Phillips, Shirley Chisholm, Jesse Jackson, Sr., and Al Sharpton could not—by gaining the necessary delegates to demand nomination.

Of course, there have been numerous Black candidates for president, but these have been third party efforts designed more to raise issues, to organize or protest than to actually win elections. Some of the best known have been Eldridge Cleaver (former Black Panther Minister of Information), Dick Gregory, Dr. Lenora Fulani, and the former congresswoman, Cynthia McKinney.

But this is a different kettle of fish, for Obama’s candidacy is the closest to make it to the winner’s circle.

What also distinguishes Obama from his predecessors is he doesn’t come from civil rights, Black liberation, socialist or anti-war movements. (He often remarks at speeches, “I’m not against all wars, I’m just against dumb wars.”)

Indeed, although his detractors may try to paint him as a leftist liberal, this is hardly true. On issues both foreign and domestic he would’ve been more at home in the Republican Party of his senatorial forebear, Edward Brooke of Massachusetts. For though he is Black by dint of his African father, he has studiously avoided Black political groups in his long, harrowing climb to the rim of the White House.

He has studiously avoided the very real and long-standing grievances of Black America. In fact, he tried to run a “post-racial” campaign until Sen. Hillary R. Clinton (D-NY) and her rambunctious husband, former Pres. Bill, brought race front and center during the Super Tuesday February primaries, by trying to pigeonhole him as “the Black candidate.”

This primary wounded Obama, and as he won in the delegate count, he also lost a number of primary states, such as Ohio and Pennsylvania, which are necessary for a win in November.

Politics is the art of making people believe that they are in power when, in fact, they have none.

It is a measure of how dire is the hour that they’ve passed the keys to the kingdom to a Black man.

As in many American cities, Black mayors were let in when the treasuries were almost barren, and tax bases were almost at rock-bottom.

With the nation’s manufacturing base also a thing of history, amidst the socioeconomic wreckage of globalization, with foreign affairs in shambles, the rulers reach for a pretty, brown face to front for the Empire.

“Real change that you could believe in” would be an end to Empire, and an end to wars for corporate greed, not just a change of the shade of the political managers.

That change, I’m afraid, is still to come.

Why does anyone listen to that thug? He should have been put to death years ago.

A total embodiment of what is wrong with society; thugs are put on pedestals while the average joe is stomped on and taxed to death, part of which provides lodging, health care, and three meals day to a convicted murderer sentenced to death.

Oh, he sounds educated alright but remember, people like Pol Pot, Hitler, and Stalin weren't dumb either.

That murderous bastard should be 6 feet under. So Mumia likes Obama? Add another reason not to vote for Obama.

And John Hagee endorses John McCain. Is that a legitimate reason to oppose McCain? What kind of logic is that? How can you blame Obama for the deeds of another man? That is just as unfair as me calling McCain anti-Catholic because Hagee hates Catholics. Candidates should be judged on what they stand for and whichever positions they hold, not the words or deeds of their supporters.

Honestly I was being flippant. I'm not a huge McCain fan but his views are much closer to my own. I can not see myself ever voting for Obama. I can't stand how badly the mainstream media wants him to win. It's the contrarian in me. Sorry

A study concluded that the media has actually been tougher on Obama than McCain.

Mumia is convicted of murder and sentenced to death. He was tried in the US, not Stalin's USSR or Saddam's Iraq, or some other oppressive socialist regime, where it was common to be guilty and sentenced death AND actually get death, whether one did something wrong or not. Oh wait, my bad, during Stalin's reign, people usually didn't get a trial before they were executed.

Allow me to illustrate:

Evil Dictator Regime:

If Accused
Then Death

USA:

If Accused
Then Tried
Then Verdict
If not guilty
then freed
If guilty
then punishment
If punishment == death
then sit on death row for 25 years on taxpayer's expense

Board won't let me indent to show format and proper logic sequence, sorry.

If you look into the case your find out there is not enough proof that he murdered a police officer.
Affidavits/Declarations:

• Mumia Abu-Jamal- Mumia's description of what happened to him on the night of December 9, 1981, when he was framed for the murder of Officer Faulkner.

• William Cook- Mumia's brother's account of what happened to them on the night of December 9, 1981. Why did prosecutor's embrace William's account for William's trial, but completely contradict it in Mumia's trial?

• Arnold Beverly- The former mafia hit-man who confessed to killing Officer Faulkner during a mob hit. Mumia is on death row due to be framed up for the murder of Officer Faulkner.

• Linn Washington- News reporter who worked with Mumia and observed improprieties at the crime scene.

• Donald Hersing- FBI undercover informant who exposed widespread police corruption in Philadelphia. These corrupt police, including police at the scene on Dec 9, 1981.

• Terri Maurer-Carter- Court reporter who heard the original trial judge, Judge Sabo, make racist comments regarding Mumia and his trial.

• Yvette Williams- Co-worker and friend of Cynthia White, the prosecution's key witness, who described to Yvette how told her she lied in court because of police pressure, how police gave her drugs and special food to bribe her into cooperation.

• George Michael Newman- A private investigator contracted by Mumia's then-attorney, Leonard Weinglass to locate and investigate witness, Robert Chobert. Newman reports his interviews with Newman turned up remarkably different accounts than Weinglass' interviews, and describes how he was then sidelined by Weinglass.

• Kenneth Pate- Brother-in-law of security guard, Priscilla Durham. He relates how she admitted she lied in her testimony due to police pressure when she said Mumia confessed.
