trading my Wii for Xbox 360?
I've bought a Wii almost a year ago and even bought Zelda but I'm really thinking of trading it for a Xbox 360.
As for games I would have more titles to choose from. I would love to have Forza or Burnout and stuff like that.
Also I can get it "media center" stuff from it .
I bought the Wii because it was kind of revolutionary but that initial spark is gone. If anyone has a Wii, share your impressions.
I remember Dann talking about getting one at some point, being recommended by a friend of his so I would like to know any opinions about it too

I got a wii for my kids, and because being a married guy with two kids, "family friendly" has become a lot more important than "good" in some ways. I still enjoy it a lot, though - we have several of the party-style games since it allows us to play with the kids. The few regular games I have tried were less fun, IMO. I'd be looking at a playstation or xbox if I wanted to do any "grownup" gaming. Gone are the days of Silent Hill, GTA3 and Resident Evil, alas.

My brother first bought the nintendo ds for his daughter and then finally bought the wii for her. He has all the nintendo units all hooked up wirelessly to his linksys ww-drt router. The whole family has gone wii crazy. Even his oldest step daughter comes over with her husband and baby to play with it. Now they are have wii parties. Apparently it is catching on.
According to the media, the xbox series has the highest failure rate of any consumer product. I m not sure that is true though. My oldest daughter's original xbox has not failed yet.

Guess everybody agrees that the Wii is more "family friendly".

They are not referring to the original Xbox, but the Xbox 360 specifically, and yeah the failure rate on that thing is very high, a friend of mine has had his replaced four times since he bought it in late 2005.davijordan wrote:According to the media, the xbox series has the highest failure rate of any consumer product. Unless there is an Xbox 360 game that you absolutely cannot live without, I would steer clear of the Xbox 360. As others have said, the failure rate is VERY high. My brothers Halo edition Xbox 360 that he purchased last August just failed on him earlier this week. He loves Halo and Halo is pretty much all that he has played on it. That was his 4th Xbox 360. He said it will also be his last.
If you are looking for a more adult oriented gaming platform I would recommend the Sony Playstation 3. It plays Blue Ray movies, makes far less noise than the Xbox 360, has wireless networking, is dead nuts reliable and you can install Linux on it. I have a Playstation 3 that I purchased back in October and have had zero problems with it. Games play great on it and Blue Ray movies look fantastic. I play Call of Duty 4 on it all of the time, and yes I do have Linux installed on it. Ubuntu Gutsy.

I thought these last versions were better but last August is not that far.tcrroadie wrote:Unless there is an Xbox 360 game that you absolutely cannot live without, I would steer clear of the Xbox 360. Actually that's a good idea. It could probably serve as a samba server.tcrroadie wrote: If you are looking for a more adult oriented gaming platform I would recommend the Sony Playstation 3. Yes. There are actually two different configurations available for the PS3. A 40GB model and an 80GB model. Please see the link below for more information on the Playstation 3.davijordan wrote:Does the ps3 come with an hd?

Microsoft did revise the the design of the cooling solution for the CPU and GPU of the Xbox 360 but there seems to be more than just overheating issues. My brother actually went as far as water cooling his Halo Edition Xbox 360, and it still failed. Water cooling the Xbox 360 made a major difference in the amount of heat that was inside the Xbox 360's enclosure. After an hour of gaming the outside surface of the enclosure was still cool. And yet my brothers liquid cooled Xbox 360 still failed. I don't have any pictures of my brothers Xbox 360, but this is the liquid cooler that he used for it. It was major overkill and worked great. Did I mention that his Xbox 360 STILL failed.jnash2001 wrote:I thought these last versions were better but last August is not that far.

My brothers liquid cooled Xbox 360 flashed 3 red lights at the power switch indication a general hardware failure. This commonly occurs when the system POST. This was the exact case for my brothers Xbox 360. He turned on his Xbox 360, turned away for a moment and when he looked up at his monitor all he saw was a black screen, and his Xbox 360 was flashing the 3 read led's. It was the first time he had powered up the machine for the day. Please see the link below.

So? If it dies Microsoft will replace it, I don't see why it is even a concern. Speaking from experience, I had an Xbox 360 for about a year and I never had any issue with it.Tsuroerusu wrote:They are not referring to the original Xbox, but the Xbox 360 specifically, and yeah the failure rate on that thing is very high, a friend of mine has had his replaced four times since he bought it in late 2005.davijordan wrote:According to the media, the xbox series has the highest failure rate of any consumer product. Please keep in mind that the extended 3 year warranty issued by Microsoft ONLY covers the general hardware failure indicated by 3 flashing red led's. Any other hardware problems that an Xbox 360 owner may experience will not be covered by the extended warrenty. See the link below.Wally Balljacker wrote: So? My brothers 3rd Xbox 360 had a problem with freezing during game play and would give him 2 flashing red led's. This would happen after just a few minutes of game play. So in this case my brother was screwed.
In my opinion, if the games you want to play are available on a more reliable platform, then why screw around with all the crap surrounding the Xbox 360.

Well, I personally love the fact that the NES machines that I own still work, 15, or so, years after production. I don't like spending money on something that doesn't last, doing that is wasting your money, but that's just me.Wally Balljacker wrote:So? So I'll just buy a couple of them from you thenTsuroerusu wrote: Well, I personally love the fact that the NES machines that I own still work, 15, or so, years after production. I don't like spending money on something that doesn't last, doing that is wasting your money, but that's just me.
Now seriously I'll give more than a second thought on the Xbox deal. Part of it was that I could get one used for a good price but I'll look to the PS3 more closely.

After my brother had to get his first xbox360 replaced he bought one of these and so far its still working.

How typical of a Microsoft product to require 3rd party products to last!allix wrote:After my brother had to get his first xbox360 replaced he bought one of these and so far its still working.
