Dann and I have been discussing bittorrent again and to that end I have set up a test feed for this past weeks files. If you go to the tllts.org server and click on the drop down list for epi 113 you'll see a torrent feed. Please use this and let us know here what your impressions are.
Is anyone interested in getting feeds in this manner?
You want the normal feeds or perhaps higher quality audio files?
Should we just scrap bittorrent?

;as a user i'm not as thrilled with the speed of torrents on smaller files (read: less than 100MB) if they don't have many peers, but perhaps you could get your show mirrors to help seed in order to keep the speed up. i'd be interested if it was supported by bashpodder. ;)Linc wrote:... ;a torrent is a great way to defer traffic hits to your server. if i had a successful podcast i'd consider it. i think a higher quality file is a great idea (STEREO!) for the torrent. perhaps append "-hq" to the end of the file?

Actually, it's supported by my bpgui (it will launch a downloader) but the torrent isn't (yet) included in the rss feed. Sterio files are on thing we have talked about - might just be time to try them soon! Hopefully we can get many of the listeners to help seed the torrent as well. I think this may be the way to go for high quality ogg and mp3 files. Yes, it means more encoding of files but a higher quality file for those who want it. If we're able to get 20 people to leave the latest episode available all the time it would make it feasible. Maybe this should be a poll? I'm for it.
I use bittorrent exclusively to get the Evil Genius Chronicles, and it works OK. I check my bashpodder directory in the morning and if there's a torrent I start downloading. I usually get the complete file to put on my thumb drive by the time I get dressed and get my lunch packed.
A bittorrent only RSS feed would be good, although I'd include the regular quality files and not just the higher quality. I realize this means a lot of work to maintain that many feeds.
If it makes any difference, you guys will probably be getting a new mirror pretty soon.

If I wasn't lazy, I'd just hack my bashpodder to spawn a bitttorrent process on each .torrent file.
