yeah I have been playing around with pclinuxos and it seems really nice so I thought why not just go with mandrake so I am going to give mandrake another try.
ahh - I remember the days of buying mandrake at sam's club for $29.00 - was use to slackware at the time and just immediately switched to mandrake - so I will be giving it another go.

Mandrake was my first Linux OS, too. Picked up 8.2 (bluebird) at the local Future Shop (Canadian version of Best Buy) for $60.00, I believe.
The only disappointing rumor I read about 2007.1 is that the multi CD ISOs will not be part of the initial launch . Only the DVD images will (apparently) be available, with the CD ISOs following a little later - according to rumor.
Kind of a bummer for me. I only have a DVD drive on the new laptop we bought a couple months back.
I'm anxious to see how well Drak3D works at managing Metisse and/or Compiz.

I started on Mandrake 8.0 but it soon jump to 8.1, I did had issues because like many linux newbies I tried installing every package I could get my hands into and the problem was that I got in cooker. Then I learned and I have been fine with the standard sources, and my life has been Zen.
Mandriva is an awesome distribution, it just work, and I dont have to rant too much to get help. The community is pretty large and I have found the ease of use without too much confusion.
I like the MCC and the Drak Wizards, I got urpmi pretty well learned and well at the end I think is the best distro when it comes to innovation even if it doesnt pick up. Remember Zeroconf? Kat? Mandrakexperts? devfs? and having always the latest gnome and kde on their releases.
