I want to replace my PDA/cellphone with something that is just like this N810. Although my phone has EVDO and WiFi, the only thing I use my EVDO for is checking my email. I am usually in a place that has WiFi so I don't need my phone for internet access. If I need access, i'm sure I can use my new phone when I get one as a bluetooth modem. Would this device be too big for it to be usable as a cellphone too? It would be nice to have a Linux based device as a PDA/phone. I hate using Windows Mobile but that is the only smartphone/pda that Verizon has that is worth getting.

Well, it isn't a cell phone for starters, though you can use skype (or something like it if skype has fallen out of favor) from it when you have wifi access. Generally, if I have wifi, I have a land line as well, though, so this gets back to the point I keep hammering on - the nokia devices are fantastic fun, but until they have the capacity to replace something I already need to carry, I cannot justify the outlay of cash for them. Yes, ostensibly they might replace an iPod, but I can't imagine dropping $450 on an mp3 player replacement. I realize that I'm unique in that I spend 9-12 hours a day in front of a computer with assloads of console windows open, managing linux boxen, telco equipment, and routers, yet I still don't have the kind of disposable cash I'd need to justify $450 (or even $300, really) for a geektoy. Or maybe I'm just a cheapskate. I think they look droolworthy as a fun gadget, though ;-)

I was thinking more about whether I could justify buying the N810 and the answer is no. I think the elimination of the 2 full size SD slots and replacing them with just one miniSD slot is a big step back. Also, I can't buy the Nokia N'xxx" until it is a clamshell design so I don't have to deal with cases and worry about destroying the screen. So, I'm hoping that the next N brings back the full size SD slot and is a clamshell. Then I'll probably bite.

Nice long video highlighting the GPS features:

The only negative to me is how long it took to initially lock onto the GPS signal.

Huh - that's pretty cool. I'm trying to imagine any kind of VM running on a 770, though.
