I lost track of that Beebe guy's train of thought, but I think he wants to fork KDE 3 and call it KDE5 so that it can be
a better KDE4 than KDE4.
It reads like a bad Back To The Future script.

Seems like some people were taken from the breast too early and have separation anxiety because this kind of thing happens all the time or have the newbies not been around when 2.2 came out? remember when many distros stopped shipping KDE 1.1.2?

My folks are on 3.59 right now and I dont see myself changing them for quite some time because it works fine.
As for our own home machines, one of them runs KDE4.1 while the others are on 3.59. I think by 4.2, we should be ready to switch but you know what Im going to do if I dont think 4.2 is ready for the big switch? I'll wait for the next version and enjoy 3.5.10. which we will always keep around.
And by the way, I hate the default KDE3 look (not too thrilled by some v4 choices too), I dont like the windows borders and buttons, I dont like the menu and other things like that. You know what I do when I do a new install? I change it to my taste..
That's why I chose KDE.

SJVN is now a freelancer.
Page hits are very important.
His 'Im going back to Gnome and wont come back for a long, long time' comment is not something you would expect to hear from someone who has covered Linux so long but rather from a fanboi.
His "do you know who I am" rant to a comment says even more about him as well..

That does bring up a point - who exactly is he? I mean, apart from the fact that he's released a bunch of op-ed pieces I've seen links to, and was on TLLTS once, I know nothing about him. Has he contributed to FOSS in some large and meaningful way, or is he just some random dude with an opinion, like most linux bloggers?

I'll be honest and say that journalism like that is at least part of why I let my LJ subscription expire - not the only reason, mind you, but part of the reason. If I want to read someone else's Brain Farts I'll real forums or blogs, but I refuse to consider it journalism.

Actually, come to think of it, maybe that's exactly what journalism is. I dunno. I do know that I find myself having less and less time/desire to read it and its ilk, though.
