We did indeed see some fungal strangeness. There's so much moss in my yard I hardly have any grass left.Patrick wrote:I went out there and it was all dried out. I should took the picture right away. It was a mutant. This past October was one of the wettest on record for PA. There were so many mushrooms sprouting all over the place! I'm sure Ohio was the same as you're right next to us.
Who do you want us to interview?

Still writing a C compiler is an enormous task, and I really respect RMS for actually taking this philosophy out into reality instead of just saying, oh well I can't change anything anyway.Gomer_X wrote:I think Linus has a job.Tsuroerusu wrote:It's pretty ironic that Richard Stallman could find time to come on and Linus can't, pretty weird when you think about both people's contributions to the community:
Richard Stallman: The GPL, Emacs, GNOME...
Linus Torvalds: The Linux kernel.![]()
I'm also pretty sure RMS didn't contribute to Gnome, although it's a GNU project. He wrote the original GCC, though, which is pretty important.
Even thought Linus has a job, I do think he has 40 mins., or Pat could do a prerecorded interview, to be on the show, he's been all over the place in the past

I think the difference between RMS and Linus is that RMS is an evangelist for a philosophy, whereas Linus is a programmer. Linus has no agenda except to oversee the kernel. RMS's job is to promote free software, therefore he spends a lot of time talking to people.Tsuroerusu wrote: Even thought Linus has a job, I do think he has 40 mins., or Pat could do a prerecorded interview, to be on the show, he's been all over the place in the past

RMS still maintains Emacs as far as I know, but anyway, Linus has already been interviewed up the ass, I don't think there is a question that he hasn't been askedGomer_X wrote:I think the difference between RMS and Linus is that RMS is an evangelist for a philosophy, whereas Linus is a programmer. Another vote for Pat V (I know you have contacted him, but in case he checks this forum...

In light of the recent events and annoucements I'd like to suggest Michael Steil the founder of the Xbox-Linux project and one of the guys at the new Free60 project which aims to port Linux to the Xbox 360, after crack Microsoft's protection systems of course.

I've talked to Chris already. He says he's extremely busy right now at Google and to get back to him in a couple months. I'll contact him again after the new year.Tsuroerusu wrote:Just to add another one to the list:
Chris DiBona, Open source program manager at Google Inc.
I've also sent emails to Bruce Perens, Kevin Mitnick, DVDJon, Judd Vinet and Patrick Volkerding.

Would be totally awesome to have Kevin Mitnick on the show, poor guy was in maximum security for 8 months, I've actually never heard about his experiences with free operating systems.
Something that's ironic is that Kevin broke into Sun's network and stole the sourcecode for SunOS and ten years later, Sun open sourced Solaris.
