Choice will always be there for those who want it, also if hardware vendors are going to embed hardware DRM into motherboards in the future, who cares about new support from vendors, when we already have a huge amount of hardware out there that both Linux and BSD runs on.

Look at my own needs, I really don't care about games for Linux,
consoles are a better solution for me because they have the games
that I like, an example could be Mario, Metroid, Donkey Kong.

Also, if the US government continues to make laws that promote DRM and shat like that I bet ya distribution of Linux will be illegal and considered warez in a few years

So we'll all be going to IRC and sharing and developing this software in the underground of the internet

I'm just a little depressed right now

Sometimes I think the same thing however there are so many smart hackers working on Linux that as soon as theres a problem theres a workaround/hack/patch to fix it. The hardest thing that is hard for Linux to overcome is politics however if Linux were to become the main desktop OS there would be more lawyers helping to stop any bad lawsuits. I thought Linux was going to go down the drains after SCO started sueing commercial Linux venders however nothing came of it because it is already too powerful to be stopped. Nothing can stop Linux from growing now, not even MS and its army of lawyers. I know the legal system has some definate flaws but me and thousands of opensource enthusiasts as well as several commercial companies are not going to let the legal system get in the way.

You guys are looking at this all wrong; you need to see this as an opportunity to grab some cheap hardware from people who are upgrading their machines. Try scaring them into selling you their old hardware now before its too late.

For example, I'm personally trying to scare powerpc apple hardware owners into selling me their machines cheap; I tell them that the next version of Office or Photoshop won't support powerpc, and that their files in older formats won't be compatible with the newer versions. Or I tell them 3rd party hardware vendors will drop powerpc support on all future products.

Hey, I've already gotten 2 loaded g4 aluminum powerbooks for under $700
