I understand that the TLLTS IRC channel is on the server thelinuxlink.net. Is that server a part of a bigger network or is it just a single server? The reason I want to know is because the server is not letting me connect. I get this when I try to connect:
Code: Select all
18:40 [thelinuxlink] -!- Irssi: Looking up thelinuxlink.net
18:40 [thelinuxlink] -!- Irssi: Connecting to thelinuxlink.net [66.92.235.11] port 6667
18:40 [thelinuxlink] -!- Irssi: Connection to thelinuxlink.net established
18:40 [thelinuxlink] !thelinuxlink.net *** Looking up your hostname...
18:40 [thelinuxlink] !thelinuxlink.net *** Checking Ident
18:40 [thelinuxlink] !thelinuxlink.net *** Got Ident response
18:40 [thelinuxlink] !thelinuxlink.net *** Found your hostname
18:40 [thelinuxlink] -!- irc.fi 6667 Please use this Server/Port instead
18:40 [thelinuxlink] -!- ERROR Closing Link: abcxyz.tut.fi (You are not authorised to use this server)
18:40 [thelinuxlink] -!- Irssi: Connection lost to thelinuxlink.net
If you have a server for Finnish users, I would be happy to use that, but please at least make the error message a bit more informative. I know irc.fi is not the server to use. What I'm guessing is the case though is that your server's default settings block out non-local users, which I guess isn't really what you want.

I am getting "[INFO] Connecting to irc://thelinuxlink.net/ (irc://thelinuxlink.net/), attempt 1, next attempt in 15 seconds...
[ERROR] Connection to irc://thelinuxlink.net/ (irc://thelinuxlink.net/) reset." with ChatZilla right now, I will try with ksirc when I get home. The server might be having problems and the TLLTS guys havn't been home to fix it so it will probly be fixed soon (although I think I remember ksirc working last night...)

This is very odd, and I am looking into it. You're not the only one who has reported problems this week.
I had some others email me that they could not connect with debian. I tried on our co-lo and had problems too. Why debian? I do not know. I have no problems connecting with slackware, arch, ubuntu, os x using irssi or chatzilla.
I am looking into this.

It works now. Before I was doing it with the School's network (they don't care if I run PortableFirefox I checked with them) but maybe they blocked that port or something.

That is possible. I had a person on infonomicon test it with debian stable using irssi and there was no problem. I still cannot get it from debian testing using irssi or bitchx.

Where are you located? I have reports from someone in Helinski having problems connecting. I tried from canada using Debian and had problems too. We did not get the error you are listing, though. But there are people connecting from Denmark and Canada, so geography should not be an issue.

I'm trying to connect from Irssi on an Ubuntu box. I'm located in Tampere, Finland. I'm not the one who's e-mailing you. I think I had this problem about two weeks ago already I think, but I'm not sure. I tried to connect with ircII also, but that didn't help. I'll try it later in X-Chat and see if that works.

I think I found the problem. Try it now.
