Xorg 6.8.2, Composite, and GLX don't play nice

Xorg 6.8.2, Composite, and GLX don't play nice
After enabling the composite extension in Xfce, running any application that uses GLX crashes the X server. If I disable Composite, GLX works fine. According to the error message it spits out, I need to be running 6.9 or newer to use both. I'm contemplating upgrading to the testing version of 7.0, but I've heard all the horror stories of being left with a broken X server. Anyone running Xorg 7.0 on Gentoo? Is it a fairly clean upgrade?
