Version 12.0 of the oldest Linux distribution still in active development is out. This is the first release of Slackware to default to a 2.6 series kernel, a modular X.org, and glibc 2.5. New features include:

Linux kernel 2.6.21.5
X.org 7.2.0
Compiz 0.5.0
KDE 3.5.7
GCC 4.1.2
Firefox 2.0.0.4
Pidgin 2.0

...and more!

I have written a little bash script that will allow you to rsync with the Slackbuilds.org repository and then fetch and build any of the packages from the repo. I've been testing it out all through the RC stages and it has been working well.

Feel free to check it out here:

It's sort of like a mini portsnap and portupgrade from FreeBSD.
