I just installed symphony under Ubuntu and wanted to give a few heads up. First, the installer did not work for me unless I was root (or sudo). Second, it did not work for me under compiz-fusion (which is not a surprise because there seems to be issues between java apps and compiz).
It did install, though, as root under gnome much like the binary install of OpenOffice (which it is based). I could not run it though. First, the gnome menus did not appear until after I logged out and back in again. Even though, it did nothing until I learned that the Lotus directory and it's contents in my home directory were all set to root ownership. I changed that and up it came.
It was very slow, but interesting. They need to work these kinks out. It's an alpha though. It reminds me a lot of what OpenOffice was back in the pre-1.0 days. Ahhh... Remember star office (the free one before OO was released).
I look forward to good things from this.
