How I got my tv card and video camera to work with Stickam

Post by Alpha13 » Fri May 30, 2008 10:05 pm

When I tried to set up a video camera through my bt878 winfast tv card to work with Stickam, it didn't work. The flash interface recognized the bt878 card, but all I got was a black screen. After some research I found the problem. The card was defaulting to the tv "channel" 0 and I needed it to default to"channel" 1 (composite 1). The flash interface does not allow for this. I tried to set some options for the bttv module in /etc/modules, but that didn't work either. What I finally did was to install dov4l. It is a command line card controller. All I needed to do was issue dov4l -i 1 -m ntsc and all was good! I had to set the ntsc mode, as most of the bt878 card come up in PAL mode (at least the cheap one I buy do). With a video camera you will get more control over brightness, focus, and white balance. I have a very old web camera with all those adjustments and composite output.
