Show hardware and network setup

Post by dean » Fri Sep 16, 2005 5:03 pm

Just curious as I was listening Wed night how are you connecting each sound source to the mixer?
You guys say you have one asterisk box, one skype box, and the other is dynebolic?
On that asterisk box, are you connecting the mixer directly to /dev/dsp on that machine? Or maybe you're running a soft-phone client as well and grabbing output from there?
Also, I heard you say you limited the number of audio streams to 10 to keep asterisk VOIP and skype working, what kind of internet connection do you have that let's you have that much outbound bandwidth?

Thanks,

Dean

We run 5 machines minimum for the show. First there is the server running icecast2 and hybrid-ircd. Then we have the dynebolic box that streams the audio to the icecast2 server. We have a third asterisk box that only runs asterisk. From my main workstation we run either skype or xten-xlite sip phone and all the soundfiles. Finally I record the show on my PowerBook using audacity (the show is also recorded to mp3 format using dynebolic).

I have 768kp upstream from Speakeasy. When I can afford to bump that up even more, I hope to. Right now we are getting by with that.
