listening to the last show and you guys grouped ubuntu in with some distros that run services by default.
I just want to say that ubuntu comes with nothing listening by default.
if you do a default installation and run a netstat -an |grep LISTEN - you will not see anything listening.
this is one of the main reasons why I recommend ubuntu to newbies - they don't have to think about a secure desktop when they install it.
I am not correcting or starting a flame war but this was one of the first things I liked about ubuntu. no listening ports by default.
