Star Wars

Having now seen Ep III I am amazed by your guys comments on it. I thought it was a brilliant movie!

I was brought up on Star Wars, having all the toy figurines when i was little.

With the release of Ep3 we made sure to watch Ep1 and Ep2 and then go to the movies and watch Ep3 (no, not in one day, over 1-2 weeks). We thought it was great!

We then came home and watched Ep4 and Ep5 (last night) the two proceeding nights. Watching the old ones was good and nostalgic but man the effects sucked. Sure, they were amazing considering the resources they had to work with, bloody brilliant actually. But compared to the new set of 3 films, they dont compare.

Well I thought I would open discussion on this :)

I liked it though some parts I didnt like. Anakin turned to the dark side too fast and when he found Padme died it was like Frankenstien. Other than that it was good. Also I found a cool song that might even beat The Star Wars Gangasta Rap go to http://www.oldskoolphreak.com/audio/ and click 'Fette's Vette',

Actually, his turn to the dark side took at least as long as Padme's pregnancy. Now, I'll speculate that a human child takes nine months to come to term, as in our world. So, Anakin took at least six or seven months (depend on how far Padme was into her pregnancy before she told him she was expecting).

Sometimes it's easy to forget that, even though a movie is only two or three hours long, doesn't mean that's the duration of time the movie covers.

Anakin had (let's assume for argument sake) he had seven months to mull over what both the Jedi and Palpatine was telling him.... seven months of manipulation. I'd say that sounds like a fair time.

The same oversight always seems to happen in Empire Strikes Back, regarding Luke's jedi training with Yoda.

Film-wise, he's with Yoda, what, twenty or thirty minutes? Of course, a Jedi training isn't a one day thing.

Just another point of view to consider.

but Anakin was fighting for good but then he killed Samuel Jackson (I forget the guy he plays name) he's like crap, my bad...might as well join the dark side, I'm sure there were time constraints but still. It was a good movie but it moved by pretty fast (especially compared to episode II)

Master Windu is the Jedi name your after

And yes i agree with that. I see the point of the duration of the movie was about 7-9 mths, but the change was made seem so sharp, whereas if he had a little more conviction in knocking Master Windu out of the building it may of made it seem a more gradual change.

this is the one part I disliked.

It was the best out of a sorry lot. My gripes:
- the so called powerful Jedi couldn't figure out the most evil guy in the galaxy has an office down the hall
- piloting the ship that was cut in half without any propulsion or controls. Ever see a plane crash when it has no power? Fire control ships? You got be kidding me right?!
- and finally NOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Did you not get the whole 'the Jedi are losing power' and that the Sith are reknowned for being able to 'block' the force from seeing them?
- piloting the ship that was cut in half without any propulsion or controls. Ever see a plane crash when it has no power? Fire control ships? You got be kidding me right?!
So we're happy to believe in the Force, and in Yoda lifting an X-Wing in Ep5, but we can't believe in fire control ships and a powerful Jedi brining a ship into land. Sheesh
- and finally NOOOOOOOOOOO!!
You got me. Damn. ;)

I still loved the film, and felt that it was the strongest of the first 3, and at least provided a reasonable link between Ep2 and Ep4.

I sometimes think people have forgotten just how dodgy the first 3 were, script and all....

I think the originals hold up better than the prequels. I agree that we tend to hold dear things in the distant past. I recently watched some old episodes of Buck Rodgers in the 24th century that were playing on Sci-Fi channel at 3:00 in the morning. Man that show really sucked! I loved it when I was a kid. I still think Erin Grey looked smoking in those spandex cat suits!! Twiki was the most irritating character I've ever seen.

You have to also consider that this is an afternoon matinee fantasy type story.... not Star Trek (which is a bit more technical in nature).

Nevertheless, it was still entertaining with flaws and all. A little nitpicking is good for the intellect! :;)

I still stick with my first post.

The special effects and acting was bad in the 4,5,6; worse then I recall it being.

If it wasn't for the nostalgia, then dont think I wouldnt rate 4,5 & 6 a mention.

Just had a brief Star Wars discussion at the office here.

For me, if I can pinpoint anything that the new chapters are missing, it would have to be the love/hate relationship the originals had going between Han and Leia.

The bantering between the two of them brought something to the story... a light heartedness, that the prequels don't have.

Of course, the prequels are about a different part of the story with different characters (hence, different movies in content). But maybe, unknowingly, this is an element of the story others don't realize they're missing.

Just a guess.

I can by this to an extent, but the guy was down the hall for like 10+ years, and they were actively searching for him. In all that time there was no slip up or slightest indication that "hey, maybe something is not right in the next room over?"

Hey, I would buy this except for one issue. In every other scene that I can recall where the jedi use their power to mainpulate an object they must concentrate and even gesture towards said object. It also seems that the larger the object the more concentration required. I do not recall seeing any sort of concentration or gesturing the use of the force at all during this scene. Thus, it did not occur to me they were actually using the force.

Now we can draw an anology to when Luke used the force to guide his torpedo to destroy the deathstar in ep. 4; but was this actually manipulaing the torpedo or using the force to align the ship's targeting to the path necessary for the torpedo to take? Who knows.

I might harp and grouse, but I will probably see this movie many more times when it is released on DVD.

That gave me a thought. Wouldn't it off been a good scene to show thw power he had amassed by demostrating him bringing the ship in with he's use of the 'the force'. A tough concentration session, followed by him collapsing from draining himself in the process.

anyway.....

I vote for using the force to manipulate objects in general, whichever they want or all.
