Well Pat, you have to realize that some people just like to bend over and take it up their asses, or are just waiting for Mr. Gates and Mr. Ballmer to bend over so they can have their salads tossed.

It's as simple as that, same thing is going on at some Danish computer related website, bunch of fools.

I feel enlightened. Microsoft invented Good looks and desktop search. And Vista is the most stable and secure operating system ever!

, i want windows vista now !

ms said xp was the stablist os ever and it fell apart due to raw sockets in the kernel

, that was removed in sp2 iirc.

What i am really looking forward to is when it comes out and makes burnt toast out of everyones machines and they run over to linux or BSD and don;t turn back

It's not like we've heard this tune before, it's like an old-ass bird that hasn't yet been eaten by a cat, that is still singing an old-ass song!!

Anyway, I don't buy this crap for even one nano-second. If I can't connect Vista to the web (With no router in between) with the built-in firewall disabled and have it stay up/uncracked for months (Without running any sort of servers like Apache or MySQL) then it's security is garbage, because both of these things I can do with Linux and *BSD (I primarily use OpenBSD, although I have just bought a nice book on FreeBSD).

People aren't that wise, when some guy who know some basic stuff about computers (Like how to format and reinstall Windows) finds out that Windows Vista won't run his current machine, he just goes now to Best Buy or Circuit City and buys a brand new machine that comes preloaded with Windows Vista, copies all his old data over and throws out the perfectly working old machine, it's this simple. Like Allan once said, "I wanna try and find that dumpster!", and that's what we ought to try, because the kind of people that I am referring to right now, are not capable of "enlightenment" (Pun intended) like we geeks are.

No kidding man, look at this: "Buy a decent one like the Geforce 7900 now. And wait untill Vista really implements DirectX 10, and then get a good DirectX 10 graphics card."

Geez, I'd rather spend that cash on a trip to Japan ......

I saw this and read no further. So if vista is the only game in town then the point of the article is?

I also saw what you wrote in the forum Pat - very nice.

I get amazing effects on my ati radeon power color 7000 card. It also has a second output for an lcd monitor and I can configure X to have to different logins so my wife and daughter can be on the pc at the same time. consolidation -

I highly recommend these cards - they really do give great performance and use open source drivers. you can get them at tiger direct for around 30 bucks they are called powercolor radeon 7000 cards.

I really can't believe those people on the forum will spend 250 bucks on a card and then upgrade again when microsoft decides to put in their direct x or whatever in their os.

crazy - very crazy - I have been switching over to fedora core 6 lately and have been using xen and it is really really cool. I am really enjoying it and going to learn a lot about it over the holidays in my spare time. data centers will eat this stuff up because they want their electric bills down and want their boxes fully utiilized. can't wait for redhat 5 that will have xen baked in.

also I patched a redhat 3 enterprise box last night and the uptime was 245 days - unbelievable - and still only 6 meg of the swap was being used. but I am sure vista is better.

What about these statements isn't true? The last one is pushing it a bit, but I believe Vista will be the most secure Microsoft Operating Sysytem ever. Windows has indeed gotten more stable and secure from version to version. They HAVE produced a better product.

Well, not to turn into Steve Gibson or anything, but security is always based on facts and not "guessing" or predictions. With Vista, you can't say that it's secure before it has actually been out in the real wild world for a while, what if they made some major bug that only real life usage by newbies might have found??? Again that would be guessing I will agree to that, but it's just an example.

Today I can tell you that OpenBSD is a very very secure OS, because that it is actually proven to be a very secure OS, same thing for Linux, it has been out there in the wild for years and years, and I have yet to see "LinBlast"-worm for it

Sure you could argue that Linux has a smaller percentage of the market and is not of interest to the crackers in Russia, but Linux servers run a hell of a lot more websites that Windows Server 2003 does.

The point is, Microsoft can't say that something is more secure or more stable than the other one before it has actually been proven more secure or more stable. The best example I can come up with is Windows 2000 and XP, they said XP was more secure and more stable and the exact opposite was the truth.

I agree that it has gotten "more stable", that's not to say that it has gotten "stable".

The funny thing about 2000->XP was that stability took a big big dump, Windows 2000 is much more stable than XP from my past experiences with both versions.
