Interview with Jeremy Allison

First of all, loved the interview. Jeremy is a bright, funny, and energetic guy during interviews which makes him lots of fun to listen to. He is also incredibly smart and heavily involved in the community, so he can speak intelligently on a number of topics.

I just wondered if anyone else felt like you were hearing a double take for a large portion of the content in the interview? Especially, I noticed this when Dann and Jeremy were going back and forth about careers in free and open source development. I thought parts of the interview from about a year ago on tllts were spliced into the show. I'm sure that if you go and cover the same topics with the same guest a second time, you are going to get that. I just wondered if anyone else noticed how much of the interview sounded like Deja Vu?

Great job though, and it was fun to hear from Jeremy again. Of course, the Novel + MS stuff was interesting and informative too, also it was all new. We heard it on the Tech Show Live first!

I know what you mean, IMO its very hard to get brand new material from someone we know pretty well as far as samba and his computing career. A less the the guest being interviewed twice changes projects alot, what else can be said apart from progress of the projects and technical detail.

Jeremy was interviewed by lugradio a few weeks before, it was almost a rehash of that.

Thats why i suggested interview less known people in the open source community like the ports maintainer from midnigtBSD.

I had never even hear of midnightBSD before you mentioned it. It would be interesting to hear why yet another BSD since FreeBSD already has two projects devoted to desktop BSD, one even has financial backing because the developer was hired to hack on PC-BSD full time.

You might suggest to Will the guy's name for BSDtalk. I don't believe Will has mentioned midnightBSD either. BSDtalk is covering interviews in the BSD space very well. I love BSDtalk even though I don't run any BSD's, although I would like to get netbsd going on a box over here as a webserver, ssh, ntpd, and ftp box.

How long have you been listening? All stars? Many of the people interviewed I have either not heard of, or knew little about. check out the list

If little known people are interviewed all the time, you risk alienating most of the audience that might not be interested.

As stated in the last show, a large number of listeners have been listening for a year or less. Not many are going to go through the archieves to listen to every show. Not to mention Jeremy was just in the news for getting hired at google. In my opinion, it would be hard to interview him without getting some past infomation for new listeners and listeners that are not familiar with his work.

I've heard that. However, netbsd is better for Alpha's which is what I'm trying to get running. I have also heard that FreeBSD is very different from Net and Open, so I thought I would stay away from freebsd for right now, I might reconsider though if I simply can't get the alpha going then I will be looking to try things out on an older x86 computer instead for the same purposes.

FreeBSD does look interesting especially when you consider they have almost as much in the ports tree as debian in their apt repos.

Personally, I agree with you, that some past topics and information will have to be repeated. I still loved the interview, as I said above. It just caught me by surprise that the conversations were so similar in parts. I'm sure if I watched David Letterman and every episode where he interviewed the same star back to back I would have the same experience. Once again, not a negative, just wondered if anyone else noticed.

Me too. I noticed as well, but I knew why it had to be done. He was in the news and some rehashing had to be done.
