really good article on metal theft
Moderators: snarkout, Patrick, dann
Yeah, Dann it seems once a week here in Detroit there is a story about something getting broke into because of scrap metal. A few weeks ago, some jackass was electricuted trying to cut down a live power line. In the summer many people were having their central air units stolen in the middle of the night for the scrap metal.
My friend owns a small building in detroit and has had it broken into several times for metal. He is considering a security guard, or putting it up for sale.
It's a shame that people have to resort to this kind of thing to get by. Every day I drive by the dozens of machine shops that used to have many employed all closed. It sucks

That's what kills me. If you're having trouble getting by, my building is a place you can go to. We work together with several organizations to help the hungry, homeless, and anyone else in need. They could have received more "monetary value" of goods and such from our Guild than they could have from the central air unit. Instead they cost us a lot of money that could have gone to help others. If you having trouble getting by, that's one thing, but stealing from an organization that willingly gives you food and helps with utilities, that's counter-productive at best.
It's conflicting, too. You often see scam artists here, and people who drive up in a brand new car wanting food. I'd sell my car long before I asked for help, and certainly wouldn't put down money or sign a contract for a new car if I weren't able to pay for food. Some of the liars are the worst, too. Had one guy tell me he walked there that morning from Lawton. It was 9:30 AM, and Lawton is over 80 miles away.

Vim is beautiful
Unfortunately a junkie hopped up on crystal meth only cares about their next fix. This is a very serious problem. To nip this problem the DA's need to come down hard on nefarious scrap dealers who'll buy from anyone. The awareness level also needs to be raised. Excellent article.Vogateer wrote:That's what kills me. If you're having trouble getting by, my building is a place you can go to.
