Daylight Saving Time

Post by Vogateer » Mon Mar 05, 2007 11:34 am

I know some people like Daylight Saving Time, but I think it's a nuisance, resulting in increased traffic fatalities, unnecessary complexity in computers, and now, wasteful government spending since they've currently extended DST and plan to have a study produced about whether it actually did any good. You can bet that study will bear all the marks of wasteful government spending and bureaucracy. I'm not just vehemently anti-government, but this seems to be one of the areas where it makes a mess of things with no benefit. I'm starting to become a morning person, and don't like to have my morning daylight taken away so I'm forced drive to work when the night is still black as pitch. And now, we have DST for about 9 months of the year? Why bother going back to standard time at all?

Here's a fun quote from the quiz at standardtime.com:
William Willit (1865–1915), is the British builder who was the first to seriously advocate adopting daylight saving time, in his pamphlet "Waste of Daylight" in 1907. When he was asked why he didn't simply get up an hour earlier, What was Willit's reply?
A. "What?"
B. "Well, I could do that, but I would prefer to condemn thousands of people to die in fiery car crashes."
C. "But if I did that, how would I be able to mess up the farmers' schedules, exactly?"
D. "That's an excellent idea. I withdraw my proposal."
The answer, of course, is A.

having to change every analogue clock in house can be a pain, its nice when the clocks go back for the first day for the simple reason of 1 hr extra in bed :)
