I have Kubuntu edgy running on my desktop. It works great. I had lots of problems with Kubuntu Edgy running on my laptop, an old toshiba satellite. It kept locking up randomly for no apparent reason and sometimes applications wouldn't start or take a long time to start.
I switched to Arch and really loved it until I wanted to be really crazy and actually want to install cups so I could print something. That turned into quite a project. It was also about the time that Linc had his rant about why we have to work so hard to get things to work in linux. I had to agree, and switched back to regular ubuntu on my laptop. Printing, wireless, everything works, no problems at all. They only thing I miss is Arch's 20 second boot times, but I'd much rather have a distro and system that everything works.
Linc's little rant originally made me think of south park.. "Linc's in the (Apple) closet and doesn't to come out..! I thought, "just go buy apple then and really get locked in", that was until his problem actually happened to me!
Maybe I'm just getting older, lazier, or wiser, but I dont want to use a distro or have a system that makes me configure things just exactly like I did 10 years ago. I just want my computer to work.

It all comes down to this: KUBUNTU IS A SECOND-GRADE, CRUD.

Well, I have had problems with Kubuntu so I did what Pat did which was to install Ubuntu then installed the KDE desktop. It runs like a charm. apt-get install kubuntu-desktop.. Damn i love Apt-get....[/quote]

None of the issues I have with the distro can be sovled that easily, unfortunately. I'm certainly not as upset with the distro as Troels appears to be, but I'm disappointed with many of the choices they have made. No biggie - I'll find another distro to run on my (and my wife's) lappy. So far I have been very impressed with the PCLOS ease-of-use and hope to get mandriva installed tonight or tomorrow to see what I think. I am also thinking about giving OpenSUSE another try (though yast and sax drive me nuts). Hell, I might even take a look at mepis.

My main goals for a distro to stick on the lappys lappy are: my wife can use it w/o much breakage, and it doesn't drive me insane. It's just a lot easier for me to do updates to my lappy before my wife's and see what shakes loose than it is to upgrade hers and then find out later that something like krdc isn't working when I'm not at home. Otherwise, she'll be "pulling an Allen" and getting a macbook, I guess, and I'll install whatever the hell I feel like...

She might even like Freespire. Going forward they're basing it on Ubuntu. Mepis does now as well. I wonder how compatible Mepis & Freespire will be with the Ubuntu repos?

Considering the latest freespire alpha uses the ubuntu repos, I'd imagine very. I'm going to see how things shake loose with those two distros before I consider installing either of them, though.

Feisty seems so much faster...... It was screwy at first till the updates were on the machine, but now it is awesome for an old g3 mac. I also like the choices in software. Bye Bye os/x. I can not wait to try it on an intel machine.
