Don't know if anybody else saw this marketing bit by Microsoft, but they've already taken it down. I found a link here:

Typical FUD and rehashing of their silly Get the Facts marketing misinformation, but in a much slicker presentation. Perhaps they need to divert some of those marketing dollars to development.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that this was found at http://linuxpersonas.com. There was some article on one of the linux sites pointing it out, some guy named Sal, but it must have been taken down pretty quickly.

If and when I start my own company I'm going to hire away marketting people from microsoft, they're brilliant. This has the added benefit of making steve ballmer potentially mad enough to throw a chair:

Prior to joining Google, I set up a meeting on or about November 11, 2004 with Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer to discuss my planned departure....At some point in the conversation Mr. Ballmer said: "Just tell me it's not Google." I told him it was Google.

I read through this yesterday, and found it fascinating. Then I read this article a few mintues ago: http://blog.lobby4linux.com/archives/10 ... sktop.html

This only solidified the opinion that has hit me over the past few weeks: We've won! Sure there are a handful of minor issues we need to overcome, but face it: Linux is ready and will only get better in the future. You cannot stop the juggernaut.

Yet you can slow down the juggernaut by putting some rocks in the way. Such as:

New Person: 'Can I play my games on it?'
Linux Guy: 'Nope, sorry it's a different OS. But we do have a selection of games to chose from.'
New Person: 'Will it run my Quicken and integrated banking online stuff'
Linux Guy: 'Sorry, no.'
New Person: 'What software can playback a purchased DVD on a Linux box?'
Linux Guy: 'Oh, to play it legally [in the US] you have to purchase codec'
New Person: 'But the Windows that came free with the new PC I just bought plays them so why learn all that Linux stuff?'

So yes, in themselves they are all small issues to be dealt with. Lump them together and you get some pretty big rocks to be handled. We are winning most of the battles but the war is not going our way.
