Should TLLTS move its forum to SMF
So recently I have been an SMF advocate because I have seen too many PHPBB fall into spam. Since I dont want to get spam from tllts but have heard the continous complain about spam. I will recomend tllts to migrate to SMF. SMF has proven to be more secure, much more security tootls to protect it even more.
So basically I am putting the case to migrate, migration wotn be that hard since SMF has a migratory scripts from phpBB into SMF.

Absolutely not. Phpbb's license is GPL and SMF is not. There are also some very simple question/answer registration mods, one of which I think Dave Yates wrote and talked about on his LottaLinuxLinks.com podcast, that are very effective at cutting down the spammers. Besides, phpbb3 RC1 is just around the corner.

Actually, I run SMF myself at http://linc.homeunix.org:8080/board/ and I really like it. I have only had maybe 5 spam posts there the entire time it has been up.Jza wrote:So recently I have been an SMF advocate because I have seen too many PHPBB fall into spam. Since we've required registrations to post message we've had 0 spam postings. Granted the admins have to check the new registrations for spam bots everyday. For the most part they're pretty easy to spot. When in doubt, delete. A real person will come back and enter some information in the fields to let us know they're genuine.

This is also another forum that looks pretty good. I like the deisign and simplicity. Is a biit less cluttered:
http://newsboard.unclassified.de/
Audacity uses it and is fully GPL:
http://audacityteam.org/forum/forum
It has interesting features like Jabber IM support, fully XHTML 1.0 compatible.

No matter what language you use, after building enough libraries of standard routines then all programmers get lazy.
It is good to be lazy! Sta bene?
