It's actually 32. Like any other bit to byte conversion, divide by 8 to get the final number:

256 Kbps/8 = 32 KBps.

Your issues will most likely come from what sort of transport you have, and what condition the copper/fiber plant in your area is in. In general, though, turn off bittorrent and stop popping your mail during a "call" and you'll probably be fine.

Well, back in 2002 when I had 256 kbit of downstream speed, it only came in at 25 kb/sec. Hmmm, well, we'll tomorrow. I'm always interested in a faster internet connection!

If you go back to the episode where me and Dann talked about Xgl, AIGLX, Compiz and Beryl, you'll notice that we tried getting me into the show, however it just didn't work, Dann and I recorded the thing after the show via Skype.

So, are we shooting for Tuesday at 7:00PM EST? Does everyone have a decent sounding Mic? Have we settled on a VOIP client yet?

You've been on since then, though, and things have sounded fine. The internet is surprisingly delicate, and SIP still has a long way to go.

7:00PM EST is like 12:00AM GMT ?

if it is, you can do the show without me, because my voice would be disturbing people at that time.....

Whoo I got Gizmo working under my 64bit system, took some trickery but it seems to work fine now. Is there a number I can call to do a voice test? I remember on Skype it being echo123 or something like that.

You want to call echo. I got Gizmo working on Kubuntu Feisty for AMD64 really easy. I didn't even have to install bonjour as the library is on Feisty by default. Again no chroot required. Just added the --force-architecture flag on the apt-get install.

I've setup a permanent conference room in Gizmo for you guys to use:
Enter the following in the dial field => CONFERENCE
then enter the conference number => 5798967
If you're too lazy to setup gizmo you can call in from a phone: 1-605-475-8515

I think the caller capacity is unlimited but they recommend a limit of 10 callers to maintain the quality of the call.

Pat , does the recording feature in gizmo pick up everyone in the conference?

I don't think any of us has a pro mixing desk...

ok, guys i am hoping to do the show at around 4 pm BST time, i believe we might be able to use open source software thanks to dnsoop

It comes with alsa, i am hoping this command line hack can work

I find it hard to believe that its not possible to record a conference call without a hardware mixer and that somehow gizmo has magic in there software.

A little update...

Me and BlackSash managed to speak to each other over ekiga, unfortunately ekiga is limited to only peer to peer. Gizmo decided to Segmentation fault on me. Ive not tried skype...

So... you can't do a conference call on Ekiga? I guess that eliminates that.
