I saw this a few days ago on osnews. I haven't read the entire thing, but I certainly understand not wanting your GPLed work absorbed by bsd and therefore released under a BSD license. To my way of looking at thisngs, the only one who was being childish was Theo, if you want to call acting generally unplesent "childish." I think the whole thing could have been handled in a much more diplomatic way though - perhaps it was a case of linux driver developers sick of being told how much better OpenBSD drivers are and retaliating verbally in the open to cause a stink when they discovered their work being "accidentally" used by OpenBSD - I don't know, though, and probably never will.
