That song was in bad taste

Post by Scott » Thu Apr 19, 2007 2:01 pm

I can't say Dan didn't warn us, but that song from the end of last nights show was in very bad taste considering what happened earlier this week. You guys can do better than that.

I say they should fire Dann and replace him with a less controversial Tim McGraw cardboard cutout.

I dont think it was in bad taste. I could see how a person would think that if they didn't really listen to the song. Most TLLTS listeners are discerning enough to get it, in my opinion. Dann said he was sorry if he offended anyone. I think that was enough.

Well if this is his idea of tactfulness it explains much about him as a person. It's pretty pathetic if you ask me.

I don't think it was in bad taste. If you actually pay attention to the message of the song, it's against doing stuff like that. If you think it's in bad taste, you missed the message of the song.

The last verse of the song is
Now listen kids
I just gave you three pretty good reasons to shoot up your school,
but there's one really good reason not to.
You can't stand the head cheerleader now?
you put a bullet in her head,
they're going to name a park after her.
You don't like the Quarterback?
Fuck.
You bury him, Sarah McLachlan's going to sing at his funeral
you want to make those assholes more popular?
Is that what you want?

jingle jangle all around.

That theory is flawed as most people are going to listen to what is being said throughout the majority of the song. If they make it to the end the idea is sound, but totally wrong. Outside of the direct community that is impacted, the particular name that comes out in the news is the one committing the violence and 'the victims of the gunman' is how everyone else is referenced when multiple people are killed.

OK, you've said your piece. I'm locking this thread now since nothing positive is going to come from bickering about this.
