one gripe about ubuntu

I run ubuntu feisty fawn, and dont know if this is typical to every other distro, or if this is a gnome thing, or even an ubuntu thing. I have wireless and using the network manager tool, which in turn uses the token password manager tool. So when I boot up I am asked for a password to join my wireless network. Why? I only use this laptop at home, and do not want it to ask me. Which I found. But now I have found E17 and really like that window manager. The problem is I cannot connect to my wireless network in E17! Why cant ubuntu just say hey I know you have the password for this wireless network at boot and connect to it? Why do I have to put another password in just to connect. I may as well redo the whole connection every time I boot! Other versions of Ubuntu didnt have this problem, I made the connection then every time it booted, I was connected, no entering another password! I guess /rant

Give the Elive a try, it is a Debian based distro that uses Enlightenment. The wifi worked great for me, but it was use on a open public library network (no wep). You should be able to aptget the broadcom stuff for your laptop just like you do using Ubuntu.

Isn't it possible to disable that keychain manager? Because obviously that one will require a password to access the encrypted passwords.
If it isn't possible to disable that, you've just experienced one of my common gripes with GNOME

I think the "problem" ("It's not a bug, it's a feature!") is that NetworkManager uses GNOME's keychain manager, which stores passwords for all your apps encrypted on the disk, and it needs a master password to decrypt it in order to be able to access your passwords.

Try seeing if you can disable this keychain manager, if you can't, switch to KDE.
