I only wish the Ubuntu version offered a graphics card upgrade option and webcam... oh well. From what I've read on the Ubuntu forums the gfx card upgrade should be added sometime soon and I doubt I will be doing any serious gaming on it anytime soon, just as long as it supports beryl (or compiz-fusion).
Yeah, given how much flack they get from some people for every little thing they've done wrong with the Linux laptops, I think they've been good about making amends. This is new for them, and I imagine they'll work the kinks out. In the meantime, July 30th is the predicted arrival date for my lappie, and that's just too far away.Patrick wrote:The problem has been rectified and it's good to see Dell reacting in a positive manner. Props to them.
I'd just as soon not mess with a video card upgrade myself. I'm glad they're doing it for people that want it, but the vast majority of my problems with updates are due to closed drivers. Aside from the closed firmware of the wireless card, I think the two laptops use all open drivers. Also, Intel's been interesting of late, joining the OLPC board and such, and are starting to make me take a look at them. Of course, if AMD opens up the ATI video drivers, they'll be the company of the hour for me again.
